HHI consortium awarded $1.4bn plant contract

Hyundai Heavy Industries’ (HHI) consortium with French firm Sidem has been awarded a $1.4bn contract to construct a power plant and a desalination facility in Kuwait, according to Reuters.

Under the terms of the deal, HHI will build a gas-fired power plant worth $970m, with its consortium partner, Sidem, building the water desalination plant located approximately 100km south of the capital Kuwait City.

The power plant to be built by Hyundai will have a production capacity of 1,500MW while the desalination plant will produce up to 486,000m³ of water a day.

Construction is set to begin this month and be completed towards the end of 2016.
